I'm trying to find out why this happens - I have an installation which is working fine (it is on DNN 3.5.7), and another installation which seems to have problems with image loading. On one the thumbnails display with properties in this format:
http://www.XXdomainXX.com/Portals/3/wildPortfolio/imagename.jpg
and they look OK.
On the other installation the image is a red X and the properity/path reads: http://www.daviddunn.com.au/DesktopModules/wildPortfolio/ThumbNail.ashx?
Does this maybe mean that the Thumbnail.ashx could not create the image dues to permissions? Or is it the problem with lack of trust - if that is so it would paply to the whole machine, so why it works on the other portal?

The difference between version 1.3.5 and 1.3.7 is that .7 uses an .aspx to display the image, while .5 uses an .ashx file.
Some sites do not support .ashx files in IIS, it isn't a default file that is supported. Your ISP would have to allow this file extension to run. It has the very same properties as an .aspx file.
Using an .aspx was an attempt to get around this problem, but it doesn't work in all situations. I'm looking for a solution.

Hmm, I'd love to get the new version 1.3.7 then - but on the Downloads list I only see 1.3.5... Can you please add the newer version there, it might just work for me.

I've added it to the downloads. It is called "wildPortfolio 1.3.5 for DNN 3 & 4 without ASHX". This is a temporary solution to the issue, and I'm working on the "Final Solution" ;)
