Hi there
I've just bought the module and am having trouble getting it to work consistently. Please excuse the long description below but I thought it best to simply detail all steps I took. There are 2-3 problem areas.

I installed the module on my DNN 4.41 portal.

Then I added it to a page, had a quick look at the settings and
made one change: I ticked the box to have images in a separate folder.

Then I looked at the menus.. and chose to 'Upload Images'. I uploaded 3 images.

Then I went to 'Add New Item' and added three items, one for each image. That seemed fine.

Then I had a look at the other menu items including the templates page, but didn't change anything.

24 hours later I'm back to play with it some more and the details view no longer works. It goes to a dead link ending in an equals sign=.

No amount of clicking would brign up the details views, so I deleted each item, then deleted the module, then deleted the page.

Then I created a new page, added the module, and ticked the same 'images in separate folder' box in the settings.

This time I decided to add an item and make use of the image upload option within the item creation screen. The image appears to upload, but would not appear on the dropdown list.

So I check in File Manager to see if the files are there. No files or folder are there. So I FTP to the server and the folder is there. The previously uploaded images are also there. The newly created subfolder is present as well, but the newly uploaded image is not.

So then I went to the 'Upload Images' menu and uploaded the image there. This time the image does appear on the drop-down list in the item edit screen, so I select it and it shows as it did the previous day.

Clicking through to the details view also works fine now.

So.. I have had a few problems:

1. Something caused the details/more link to stop working first time around. Any ideas?

2. The image upload option within the item creation page doesn't work. Tried it several times, but nope.

3. None of the images show in the File Manager to the Admin role.
I have two problems with that:

First, I would prefer if I can assign a non-admin role to delete items including their images, otherwise my multi-portal system is going to overflow with un-needed images (for security reasons, content editors are not Admins and never should be).

And second, the images should show themselves to the admin in any case... hang on.. I decided to syncronise the file system before sending this post and that made the files turn up. I thought that the new DNN was supposed to sync the file system by itself? I have got "Auto-Sync File System" enabled in the host settings as it is by default. I was made to understand the the auto-sync feature works on access and negates the need for manual or scheduled file-syncs. Any ideas on that one?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any comments on it.

Sorry that you are having these problems.

>> 1. Something caused the details/more link to stop working
>> first time around. Any ideas?

Not sure why this is happening, but if you can let me see your settings, and maybe a link to the page, I will take a look. Send the information to support@wildmodules.com

>> 2. The image upload option within the item creation page
>> doesn't work. Tried it several times, but nope.

This item should be better documented. When you click on the Upload link and browse for the image, don't click Select Image. When you click the update at the bottom of the page, both the image will be uploaded and the item created.

>> 3. None of the images show in the File Manager to the
>> Admin role

The sync problem is with DNN, and I did notice it yesterday on another one of my sites, but I have Auto-Sync turned off. I will take a look on the DNN forums to see if others are having this problem. But first, is this a new DNN install? If so, does DNN's root folder have the security levels assigned as indicated in the documentation for your version of IIS?

You mentioned that you wanted to have non-admin roles delete their items, which you can. The issue is that sometimes the image may be shared, it would be a programming change, but it may be workable. It was for this reason that the image is not deleted. When I work on the editing functions, I will address this issue and assigning DNN Roles to the editing.

Hi again,

Thanks for the reply. I'll send you an email with a link and login separately. The site is a replica of my primary DNN instance with a spare domain pointed to it.

The first problem has now repeated itself, but with the item I added to the module when I wrote that post yesterday, above. When you go to the site, click on the "Port" tab and you will see one item. Try the ">more" link and you will see that it is a broken link. This is identical to the three items I had added the previous day... they all worked fine, but then overnight they all got the dead links... very strange.

I will check point 2 when I get up in the morning and see if I can make the upload work.

And point 3, about the syncing. This is a 4.03 DNN upgraded each point release to 4.11. I will need to check this again myself but I will wait until you've managed to have a look at the broken link issue in point one above. I'd like to leave the broken link 'intact' so that you can see it.

And regarding being able to delete... yes, I definitely need users to be able to remove files. This is a real problem with a lot of modules and even DNN itself, which makes it hard for general content editors to remove material off the site.. they can only add it.

Typically, I will have a business owner such as a florist, who wants to post images of their work on their site. The portfolio lets them do this very easily. But if it doesn't let them delete an item, then in no time, they will use up all their web space and then there is no easy way to remove un-used images. I would have to sit down with them and go through all the images one at a time using the Admin file manager, trying to preview images in IE and trying to decide which is no longer associated with a portfolio item. It's really not workable like that. Content owners should just click a delete button when they no longer want the item and fizzzz away it goes :) like one would expect.

I'll go and send the email with the link now. Thanks for looking into all this.

I think that read on one of the DNN forums or in release notes that Scheduling is not turned on in DNN 4. You may want to check to see if Host Scheduling is turned on and that the following is enabled:

DotNetNuke.Services.FileSystem.SynchronizeFileSystem, DOTNETNUKE.

Ok, I set up www and non-www aliases for all portals, as suggested in the email.

Funnily enough I had a similar issue with a Google Sitemap module just yesterday. If the aliases weren't perfectly matched, the map would be generated, but without pages in it. Hopefully that will sort it out and I'll ensure that I always have both present for every portal.

About the file syncing. In 4.1, the file sync schedule was disabled in favour of the new file-sync setting in Host settings. I made these notes about it at the time. It might help determine how to set the module up:

File system synchronisation:
• 'Auto-Sync' kicks in when the portals are reading
• If files are only added using DNN file manager and modules, no sync should be necessary, although one might activate a daily/weekly sync job in scheduler just in case.
• In all other cases, use auto sync and maybe schedule an additional sync job per night, to make sure that orphaned folders get cleared.

In my case I use Auto-Sync for general purposes and in addition I have the scheduler set to run once per day.

I'll go and try all this out now on my live portal and see how it goes.
